“All the wisdom of believers,” wrote Calvin, “is comprehended in the cross of Christ.” As we encounter the last quarter of Luke’s Gospel we find Jesus headed firmly to his death and so his cross. The cross of Christ is central in God’s eternal decrees and in the redemption of his people. If the cross is central to God, then surely the cross must be central to us as his children–our life and experience must glory in it. To that end as we begin the last quarter of Luke’s Gospel we will discover the sufferings of our redeemer in the cross he bore–for his Father’s glory and our sake.
