Jesus loves you said the young girl serving food to a homeless person.

He responded He seems to love you a little more.

Night and Day

Hello friends!

Jesus loves me this I know for the Bible tells me so is a song most of us know very well. In my mind’s eye, I can see myself singing this song loud and proud in my Bible class. It was, at that time, easy to sing. I had a common life, no real worries. I ate every day and lived in a good safe home with parents who loved me and taught me about Christ. But a lot of other kids in the world didn’t have that. Most still don’t. Do they think Jesus loves them?

The homeless person in the story was in a terrible position. We do not know how they got there, so please don’t assume they were lazy, foolish with their money, on drugs, etc. They could have been mistreated by someone, could have been beaten up, had their money taken from them, lied to, etc. Therein confused about God’s love for them.

Goodness

God is love

It can be difficult for people, Christian or not, to believe Jesus loves them. Often, how things are going in their life—good or bad at a certain moment is how people tend to decide if Jesus loves them or not and if God is good or not.

Worst still, we may lean towards thinking God’s love for us is fickle. Fickle means unpredictable, picky, and changing depending on our behavior or God's mood. There are some people who teach and other people who believe God is only good to good people. God knows this, and He has helped us see things rightly.

God is love. This is how God showed His love among us: He sent His one and only Son into the world so that we might live through Him.

This is love: not that we loved God, (we didn’t) but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 1 John 4:8-10

When the Bible wants us to know God's goodness and love towards us, the highest expression of His goodness and love is the cross. The amazing grace and inexpressible love that shows God's goodness by saving sinners who deserve only condemnation and judgment: saving them, incredibly, at the tremendous cost of Christ's death on Calvary. That is love!

Life has an ebb and flow to it. For many reasons, life will change. So, to relate to God through how good or bad life is, is a terribly confusing and untruthful way to live.

Someone once said the only love that won’t disappoint you is one that can’t change, that can’t be lost, that is not based on the ups and downs of life or of how well you live. It is something that not even death can take away from you.

God’s love displayed perfectly in Christ on the cross is the only thing like that. On the cross, Jesus loved us this I know for the Bible tells us so.

With all my love in the Lord Jesus Christ,

Pastor Joe
