When the Friend I plan to send you from the Father comes

John 14:26

You ain’t never had a friend like me.

From Disney’s Aladdin

Hug

Hello Friends,

My older sister’s name is Andrea. She has always been a good friend to me. When we were in elementary school, my mom and dad gave Andrea the job of making sure her little brother (that would be me) got on the school bus safely. I’ve always had a terrible sense of direction and would often find myself in the wrong place. She did a fantastic job. She would stay close by me as school let out, and I always made it home.

Year by year, in her sisterly way, Andrea has stood by me, helped me, and has always been ready to help in times of need.

Jesus Christ had a friend in the person of the Holy Spirit. When you read the Bible, you find the Spirit was always with, helping, and watching over Jesus.

At Jesus’ Birth

The angel answered (Mary), “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most-High will overshadow you. (Luke 1:35)

At Jesus' Baptism

As soon as Jesus was baptized, He went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on Him. (Matthew 3:16)

When Jesus began His earthly ministry preaching and doing good to others

The Spirit of the Lord is on me because He has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free…(Luke 4:18)

And

God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how He went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil because God was with Him. (Acts:10:38)

At His death

Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God (Hebrews 9:14)

There are more examples, to simply say the Holy Spirit carefully watched over Jesus, helped Him, and gave Him strength. Year by year, the Holy Spirit was Jesus’s friend, and as good friends do, He stood by Jesus and helped Him.

In the same way, the Holy Spirit lives in every Christian. He brings us life, watches over us, enables us to speak about Christ, is making us like Him, gives us strength to serve for His glory, prays for us, and brings us joy. Let us think deeply about these things!

Our Heavenly Father wants us to know His love for us. He would not be a perfect Father if He did not want this and if He did not make it so, and He has. God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. (Romans 5:5)

You are never alone. You are never without help. You are always loved. You will always be cared for. You have never had a friend like Him!

God bless you this week.
