If we are faithless, He always remains faithful.

He cannot deny His own nature.

2 Timothy 2:13

Dear Friends.

The word religion sometimes can conjure up images of formality, closed-mindedness, judgmentalism, and strictness. These are none of the descriptions I would choose to describe Christianity.

What is striking about Paul's words in 2 Timothy 2:13 is every other religion that's ever existed always must depend on the faithfulness of its disciple if what's promised will be received.

What is interesting is Paul, under God, chose the Greek word, ei, translated if, which literally means as actual reality as the first word of the above verse. In other words, God knows His children. He knows 100 percent faithfulness is something we cannot give. He knows we will not always be faithful. Therefore, He gives a glimpse of His character to deal with our unfaithfulness.

God's very nature is faithfulness. No one is always loyal; only Jesus is perfectly faithful. Yet, and this is a beautiful thing, in the Gospel, we learned that it's the faithfulness of Jesus which is the way for God to show favor to faithless sinners like us. If you like, it is not our faithfulness that is foundational but His.

How encouraging this is to all who desire to endure and live for Him in these days. Such honesty and understanding from God, actually, to me, is overwhelming.

Counting on humans is an uncertain science. But everything about God is not. We all will face the reality that we have not defeated some of the sins we fight. In religion, our failures are our demise. Enough is enough, they say! Or we would have to crawl back and start all over again. But not so with God. When we are unfaithful, He will be faithful to His Gospel promises. He does not lower His standard; He simply magnifies His grace.

May God give us His grace so that all our anxious feelings can be laid to rest. He is faithful. His faithfulness is the one constant in every equation of life.

God bless you in all things great and small.
