Dear Friends,
Weakness is never a hindrance for the Christian. Weakness calls for God to work in unexpected ways. Prayer is one expression of our weakness.
Keeping this in mind, a Psalm I try to tie tight to my mind is Psalm 102, especially verse 17.
He will respond to the prayer of the destitute;
He will not despise their plea.
To be destitute means lacking what we need. Those words make me think of Jesus’ words: without me, you can do nothing. That truth does not depress me; it is actually very comforting, as it leads us to Him.
A prayer for you today.
We do praise You, Lord, for creating the blessed ordinance of prayer.
We thank You, Lord, that we have found benefit not only in prayer but also in the answers to it. We have been greatly enriched.
You have opened Your hidden treasures to the voice of prayer; You have supplied our necessities as soon as we have cried out to You; yes, we have found it true: “Before they call, I will answer, and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.”
Please heal the sick. Please give hope to those in despair. Please give strength to mothers and fathers and that same strength to children. Please bless and comfort all you are alone. Please forgive us for our sins. Please enable us to do well in adversity or prosperity- whatever you choose. Please build Your church.
Give us grace, Father, to answer readily the call of our Savior Jesus Christ,
and proclaim to all people the Good News of His salvation, that we and the whole world may perceive the glory of His marvelous works; who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.
Amen.
Taken and slightly abridged from the prayer book of
Charles Spurgeon and Scott McKnight.
God bless you in all things this week, friends.
