They will beat their swords into plowshares
and their spears into pruning hooks.
Nation will not take up sword against nation,
nor will they train for war anymore.
Dear friends.
In the United States of America, we set aside the last Monday of May to honor those who have served and perished in military service.
One day, war will end. Every weapon of war—destroyed. No one will be called into service—no training, planning, or strategizing.
We long for that day- the return of the King.
A prayer for you today.
Gracious God and Father, we pray for the end of all war and the establishment of deep justice and enduring peace.
We pray for mercy for those who serve in the military, their families, and all those suffering from war.
May they all be held in Your loving care and protection and given the strength to endure great suffering and hardship.
Transform the hearts and minds of all those who propagate violence and oppression.
Grant wisdom to world leaders in advancing efforts toward peace; may they not be given to arrogance, self-interest, and blind indifference.
We ask all this for Jesus’ sake.
Amen.
