A Prayer For You Today

Dear friends,

Serving meals to others is a common ministry of the church that carries the burdens of people, couples, or families.  When transitions in life or illness come into a person’s life, Christians stand ready to shoulder a bit of the burden with a nice meal.

Taking a meal to others is a simple way to say, “God loves you, and so do we.”

A prayer for you today.

Lord of Hosts, we ask for Your blessing over these ordinary containers of food.

Thank You for providing these ingredients and the means to grow them or purchase them. Please make this meal a nourishing experience, filling and flavorsome.

We pray that You would impart strength through this sustenance and give its recipients rest and recovery, renewal and healing.

Let this meal also be a mark of connection, signaling that our hearts are open to help in other ways and willing to answer in times of need.

As we prepare this food for transport, we thank You for the opportunity to share another's burdens by taking up the preparation of one meal, knowing that in this avenue of service, You have gone ahead of us.

For on the morning after Your resurrection, You Yourself once prepared fish and bread over a charcoal fire, inviting Your disciples to eat after a long night of toil.

“Come have breakfast,” You said: those ordinary words and invitation to the first course of the tangible inexpressible, indestructible joy You are preparing for us.

Oh, Bread of Life, even as we bring bread to others, fill us with a greater hunger for Your feast, Amen.
