A Prayer For You Today

November 4, 2024
Dear friends,
In a time of what seems to be extraordinary anger and distrust in our nation, we find in Jesus our only hope in life and death.
The way of fallen men and women is to find ways to push people away from one another. As followers of Christ, the words of Paul to the Ephesians speak to us with clarity.
Put away from you all bitterness and wrath and anger and wrangling and slander, together with all malice, and be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ has forgiven you (Ephesians 4:31-32).
This Tuesday, November 5th, will mark the 60th presidential election in our nation’s history. May God have mercy on and bless these United States.
A prayer for you today.
O God, You made us in Your image and redeemed us through Jesus Your Son: look with compassion on humanity; take away the arrogance and hatred that infect our hearts; break down the walls that separate us; unite us in bonds of love; and work through our struggle and confusion to accomplish Your purposes on earth; that, in Your good time, Your people from all nations and races may serve You in harmony around Your heavenly throne; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
We were made for Your glory, grant us to serve You in freedom and peace: Give to the people of our country a zeal for justice, compassion, and the strength of self-control, that we may use our liberty by Your gracious will; through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Almighty God, who has given us this good land for our heritage: We humbly ask You that we may always prove ourselves a people mindful of Your favor and glad to do Your will.
Bless our land with honorable industry, sound learning, and pure manners. Save us from violence, discord, and confusion, from pride and arrogance, and from every evil way.
Defend our liberties and fashion into one united people. Endue with the spirit of wisdom those to whom in Your Name we entrust the authority of government that there may be justice and peace at home and that, through obedience to You, we may show forth Your praise among the nations of the earth. Fill our hearts with thankfulness, for You, the Lord God Almighty reigns all which we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Taken and slightly abridged from the Protestant Book of Common Prayer.
We are well-loved. May God continue to root and ground us in His love.
