A Prayer For You Today

Dear friends,

They also serve who only stand and wait is a line from the poem "On His Blindness" by John Milton.

Melton had lost his sight. What he used to do, he could no longer do. Dependence was his new norm. However, he learned that even if one cannot actively serve God or contribute visibly, their acceptance of their lot and patience can still be a form of service. A beautiful truth, I think, if taken a moment to think on.

A prayer for you today.

O Lord, You are as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land, who beholds Your weak creatures,

Weary of labor, weary of pleasure, weary of hope deferred, weary of self.

In Your abundant compassion, unspeakable tenderness,

bring us, we pray, to Your rest, through Jesus Christ.

May our worth be found only in Your love.

May our hope be secure only in Your faithfulness.

May our joy rest only in Your provision.

That we may be free from our performance as the basis of Your love and blessing to us.
