A Prayer (2)

August 17, 2026

Dear friends,

Father is the Christian name for God. So says J. I. Packer, and he is right.  God sent His Spirit into our hearts to affirm it (Galatians 4:6), and the Spirit will tirelessly affirm it.

A prayer for you today.

Father,

We abide in the beautiful truth that we can come to You expectantly, knowing You hear us and answer us.

You are always ready to listen to our pleas for help, comfort, guidance, and strength. You carry us always. You never tire of Your concern for us, and we depend on Your faithfulness to comfort and hold us.

And yet, sometimes the voices of our children, our friends, and those in need become so constant and overwhelming that we grow weary of the tugging, grabbing, asking, and crying for continual holding, attention, and help.

In our humanity, we are confronted by our many limitations. Thank You that You never tire of coming to the aid of Your children.

Dear Father, give us the capacity we need to respond lovingly to our children, our spouses, our friends, our colleagues, and all those in need who cry out to be picked up, helped, and held again and again.

Remind us of the blessed truth that while we hold our friends and children, You hold us. Help us display to them what it looks like to lay down our lives for one another joyfully. Help us show them that while we fail them at times, You will never fail them, and You will always hold us fast. You are our dear Father, and we are Your precious true children.  Amen
