A Prayer for You Today (1)

November 25, 2024

Dear Friends,

Churches holding a more traditional liturgical calendar celebrated Christ the King Sunday yesterday. Christ the King Sunday is a celebratory meal celebrating Jesus Christ's Kingship over all creation.

Here in America, we are a few days away from our own celebratory feast—Thanksgiving. Many meals will begin or end with giving thanks. Please join me in this prayer, giving thanks for Christ our King.

A prayer for you today.

Almighty and everlasting God,
Whose will it is to restore all things in Your well-beloved Son,
The King of Kings and Lord of Lords:

How we thank You for sending Him into this world.

Born Your people to deliver

Born a child and yet a King

Born to reign in us forever,

Now Your gracious kingdom bring

Mercifully grant that the peoples of the earth,
divided and enslaved by sin,
may be freed and brought together under His most gracious rule,

who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit,
one God,
Now and forever. Amen.

Taken and slightly abridged from

a prayer of Scott McKnight

and the hymn, Come Though Long Expected Jesus, by Charles Wesley.

May the rich blessings of Christ our King be upon you and yours this Thanksgiving.
